As we slide into the festive season, it’s helpful to have a good understanding of just how many calories are in the holiday cocktails you're almost sure to encounter. Calories from liquids can be sneaky. For one thing, they don’t feel quite the same as calories from food. Even after a drink or two, we’re likely to eat just as much as we would have if we hadn’t had the drinks at all. Adding to this is the fact that alcohol lowers our inhibitions and may even increase hunger.
As with many things, it helps to have a plan. Consider what is the least amount you would need to truly enjoy yourself (and be honest with yourself about that). Think about how many holiday parties you will likely attend. Maybe having a drink at each one is in order. Or, maybe there are one or two where sparkling water will do.
