DO YOU STRESS EAT AT WORK?
When stress hits it can send us running for the nearest sugary treat. Here are some things you can do to help you get through a stressful day at work without blowing your calorie budget:
1. Don’t skip breakfast: If you skip breakfast it can set you up to make unhealthy choices at lunch and you are more likely to overeat.
2. Avoid specialty coffee shops: When things are stressful at work it can be all too easy to convince yourself that a fancy drink in the morning is the only thing that is going to get you through the crazy day ahead. Beware – some of those fancy drinks sold at your neighbourhood coffee shop will cost you more than 500 calories and close to 70g sugar. Instead consider bringing your coffee from home or stocking your desk drawer with some fun flavours of herbal tea.
3. Be mindful: Sometimes we start looking for a snack because we need a break. Instead of hitting the vending machine, take a walk, practice some deep breathing or do some stretching exercises at your desk.
4. Plan your meals and snacks: Eat at regular times throughout the day so that when the box of doughnuts gets passed around the office at three o’clock you don’t have to contend with stress and hunger.
