1. Involve them in meal preparation. Get them to wash fruit and vegetables, tear lettuce, spread condiments, mix ingredients together or set the table.
2. Start a garden together. With Spring around the corner,it’s the perfect time to plant seeds for vegetables, fruit and/or herbs.Growing their own food can help them appreciate the hard work that goes into food production.
3. Plan together. Let each family member choose a healthy meal during the week. This will allow them to enjoy their choice and give themthe opportunity to try the pick of others.
4. Make food fun. Use any artistic skills to cut fun shapes into sandwiches, toast or other items (feel free to use a cookie cutter).
5. Plan a themed dinner once a month. Celebrate anotherculture and get the whole family trying a new food with fun decorations or activities related to the theme.
6. Use food to learn. Make up a game or activity to get them thinking about food in a different way. Talk about what benefits it can do forour body, different ways to prepare it, or blindfold them so they have to guessthe food by smell or texture.
7. Go on an adventure. Take a trip to the farmers market or farm to build their understanding of local foods. You could even try a newgrocery store and ask them to pick one new food to try.
