The Potential of Food

We are nearing the end of March, which, for those who don’t know, is National Nutrition Month. Food plays a large role in our everyday lives- a quick breakfast to get you through the morning, grabbing a coffee and snack with a coworker, celebrating your friend’s birthday with drinks and appetizers or spending time with family over a holiday dinner. It is beneficial for us to recognize the importance of food in our society.

he theme of Nutrition Month is to 𝑈𝑛𝑙𝑜𝑐𝑘 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑃𝑜𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑎𝑙 𝑜𝑓 𝐹𝑜𝑜𝑑. What does this mean?

Food has the potential to 𝑓𝑢𝑒𝑙 us by providing us with energy and nutrients to keep our bodies running and performing.

Food has the potential to help us 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑐𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟 new recipes, flavours, textures, cultures, and more.

Food has the potential to 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑡 chronic diseases such as Type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

Food has the potential to ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑙 current diseases or illnesses.

And finally, food has the potential to 𝑏𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑢𝑠 𝑡𝑜𝑔𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 through connection and time spent with our loved ones.
